G04. Tense: Past/Present/Future

1. 현재형 present tense: Verb stem +아요/어요/여요(해요)

예문) 오늘 도서관에 가요. 도서관에서 공부를 해요. 그리고 커피숍에서 친구를 만나요. 친구와 같이 영화를 봐요. 영화를 보고 저녁을 먹어요.


가다+ 아요 → 가아요 → 가요 (contraction)
보다+ 아요 → 보아요 → 봐요 (contraction)
먹다+ 어요 → 먹어요
하다+ 여요 → 하여요 → 해요

✫The vowel of last syllable in the verb stem is "ㅏ" or "ㅗ", then combine with "-아요"
✫The vowel of last syllable in the verb stem is any vowel other than "ㅏ" or "ㅗ", then combine with "-어요"

2. 과거형 past tense: Verb stem + 았어요/었어요/였어요(했어요)

보다+ 았어요 → 보았어요 → 봤어요 (contraction)
먹다+ 었어요 → 먹었어요
하다+ 였어요 → 하였어요 → 했어요

먹다+ 을 거예요 → 먹을 거예요
